Newsletter: 2nd Quarter 2006

Welcome to the 2nd issue of our GC3 Newsletter for 2006.

The $1 billion Dawson project is an interesting new development in the rapid expansion currently being witnessed in the Central Queensland region. Details of the "largest design and construction contract awarded to date" can be found in our first story.

Nuclear power is especially topical at this moment and our second story delivers an account of CO2 production at all stages, from mining through to power generation. However, is this the full story?

To even the balance somewhat, the following article highlights the work and commitment of our governments and industry leaders to close the gap and develop new processes to generate 'almost greenhouse gas-free' power. This will be demonstrated in the redevelopment of the Callide power station.

The final story announces the $9 million support by major Queensland coal producers, Federal and State Governments for the go ahead for the Blackwater International Coal Centre. "It will provide a major attraction for visitors to the area, and new community facilities such as cinema and parklands" said Duaringa Shire Mayor Mr. Gary Howard.
