Newsletter: 1st Quarter 2007
Welcome to the 1st issue of our GC3 Newsletter for 2007
The lead article for this issue focuses on the CS Energy's Callide Oxy-fuel Project. This project investigates ways of converting existing power generating units to be global warming wise. Retro-fitting oxy-firing technology for cleaner fuel burning is being trialed.
The second story is contributed by Dr. Len Walker in response to a story in the last newsletter. He has a different view on the global warming issue. I should note that we have a typographical error in the second paragraph in the printed newsletter - the first temperature appears as 120C when it should obviously be 12°C.
The next article presents a rather different approach to dealing with CO2 emissions. This technology uses algae to consume CO2.
The recruitment, training and retention of women in the mining sector is a hot topic at moment and our last story reports on the achievements of Year 12 North Rockhampton High School student, Katherine Grigg. Katherine received the Resources Award for Women in Brisbane in March.
I hope that you find the stories interesting.
